AS in Applied Information Technology

An AS in Applied Information Technology is a 2-year associate degree that gives you foundational skills in computer systems, networking, databases, programming, and IT support. AS in AIT can get you hired in entry-level IT jobs, prepare you for industry certifications, and serve as a stepping stone toward a bachelor’s degree if you want to move into higher-level roles like systems analyst, cybersecurity specialist, or IT manager.

The purpose of the Associate Degree in Applied Information Technology is to give you:

  • the ability to analyze and solve complex technical problems as well as document and communicate technical information
  • enhanced computer hardware and software knowledge and skills
  • a working knowledge of computer networks
  • the ability to learn how to develop information technology security solutions
  • experience using technology as a learning format

 

There are five concentrations for you to select from: 

To earn one of the Associates degrees, you will need to complete 64 credits. These credits are broken down as follows:

  • University Core (General Education), 32 credits
  • Major Concentration, 32 credits
  • Supporting Courses, 4 credits

Cyber Security

What You Will Learn

The course work in Cyber Security track will include a foundation of security topics such as types of attacks, hacker techniques, legal and privacy issues, security policy, information security best practices. Students will develop a strong base in fundamental industry concepts and practices as well as critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS

What You Will Learn

This program provides students with an understanding of circuit-switch networking technology built on copper lines, including DSL, as well as a comprehensive core of telecom technology courses. The Telecommunications track provides the fundamentals of telephony, solid state circuits, digital and microprocessor fundamentals, DSL, computer applications, communications and math, as well as the basics of the industry’s emerging technologies.

What You Will Learn

This program provides students with an understanding of fiber-to-the-home, broadband, and networking technologies, along with a comprehensive core of telecom technology courses. The Networking Technologies track provides a background in broadband essentials, cabling, operating systems and/or microcomputer hardware and troubleshooting, in addition to the technical core courses in electrical circuits, signal and data transmission, emerging communications technologies, and business and technical communications.

WIRELESS NETWORKING

What You Will Learn

This program provides students with an understanding of all aspects of the most current wireless networking technologies. This emphasis area is built on a comprehensive core of telecom and broadband technology courses. The Wireless Networking Technologies track provides a background in telecom and broadband essentials, operating systems, wireless LANs, wireless network security, and technical communications.

This technical degree prepares students for careers in the telecom industry’s burgeoning field of mobile phone technology, including voice, data, and smart phones, as well as the future of wireless technology and product offerings. The A.S. degree, Mobile Technology track, provides a background in basic radio concepts, analog cellular, digital, emerging wireless technologies, mobile devices, mobile operating systems, VoIP in mobile networks, and high-level convergence.
